BARING YOUR SHOULDERS & FLAWS

I could easily speak on my love for off the shoulder tops and how scarves can double as a headband... but I have something more pressing in my heart. So today as far as fashion logistics, I will let the photos speak for themselves and hope you are inspired in your own summer look! But for today's post, i'd really like get down to the bare essentials. I struggled for most of my adolescent years with an issue all of us know too well: self worth. I set out on a failed quest to find my identity in fleeting distractions only to find myself knee deep in sinking sand. I realize now looking back that I had spent so much wasted time fixating and covering up my flaws instead of believing the truth of who I actually was. And here it is:

"I (YOU) am fearfully and wonderfully made." -Psalm 139:14

The verse goes on to say, "your works are wonderful." WONDERFUL. Have you ever stopped to think that you are so lovingly created to be the epicenter of all creation? In the Garden of Eden in Genesis, God created Adam and Eve, saving the best for last. While he was pleased with the rest of creation, there was a deep unrivaled joy reserved for man and woman when He declared, "it was very good." (Genesis 1:31) I often wondered why then, if God indeed thinks so much of us, is it that the struggle for self worth is a worldwide epidemic seemingly without a cure? Then I remember a piece of golden advice I will never forget:

The only reason the enemy tries to stop you is because he has peeked into your future.

While we were still enslaved to our own depravity and sin our enemy was God. And no matter the depths of rebellion, Christ loved us unto death...all the way to the cross to conquer once and for all in LOVE. But now being reconciled and redeemed to Christ, the enemy of our souls is Satan. See, we were safe when God was our enemy because he loved us and was FOR us. Now our enemy, Satan, is seething in HATE with a single fold mission to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). The enemy knows he cannot directly attack God, so what does he do? He attacks the very thing God is foolishly in love for: YOU AND ME. Why? Because you and I are so supremely valuable in the eyes of God that getting us to hurt gets right at the heart of God Himself. Woah. How does that feel to know that to the King of the Universe, you are His soft spot?

Flaws are the darts among many weapons used to cause a conflicted heart within you so that would never realize the TREASURE you are. FLAWS AND ALL. Whether on the surface of your skin or in the pit of your heart, there is no flaw that is bigger than the redemptive transformation of Christ. The promise is that in the power of Jesus ALL things, the ugly and the beautiful are made NEW in Him. "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." (Isaiah 43:19)

What is your wilderness? What is your wasteland? I urge you to surrender whatever that is to the truth of your worth. Regardless of your faith, perhaps you don't believe there is a God at all...ready or not, a way is being made to SET YOU FREE.

Are you ready for ground to break?
